ORCC is a non-profit sport organization offering recreational and competitive paddling programs (canoe, kayak, SUP, OC) to all regardless of ability.

Kiddie Canoe Instructor

The Ottawa River Canoe Club (ORCC) is seeking an enthusiastic and responsible individual to join our team as a Kiddie Canoe Instructor for the Kiddie Canoe Evening Program (4-7 years old). This program introduces young children to fundamental movement skills through fun, engaging, and play-based activities on and around the water.

About the Program:

The Kiddie Canoe Program focuses on developing agility, balance, and coordination while introducing children to the water in a safe and fun environment. Sessions emphasize FUNdamental movement skills through active play, early paddling experiences, and interactive games. The program encourages parent participation, helping children build confidence in boats while promoting water safety and physical literacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead structured and engaging play-based activities that develop fundamental movement skills.
  • Introduce children to paddling and water play in a safe and supportive manner.
  • Encourage active participation and movement through interactive games and activities.
  • Promote water safety awareness and early-stage skill development.
  • Foster a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with other instructors to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Maintain safety protocols and enforce club guidelines.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be 15 years or older.
  • Enthusiastic, patient, and passionate about working with young children.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to create a fun, engaging, and safe learning environment.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (for applicants over 18).
  • Minimum of two personal references (for applicants under 18).
  • Safe Sport Training (or willingness to obtain).
  • Coaching Association of Canada (or willingness to obtain.) NCCP - Community Sport Trained for Canoe Kayak
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Assets (Preferred but Not Required):

  • Experience working with young children in recreation, sport, or educational settings.
  • Previous paddling, swimming, or water-based experience.
  • Experience teaching fundamental movement skills and physical literacy.

Employment Details:

  • Term: June 30 – August 22, 2025 (with mandatory training in May & June).
  • Hours: 1 Weekday evening & 1 Weekend morning (~2 hours per session).
  • Salary: Starting at $17.75/hour, may be increased based on experience.
