The competitive development coach is responsible for growing the ORCC competitive sprint program by developing the next generation of competitive athletes. The competition development coach will help the athletes in this program achieve their goals within the structure set out by the Head Coach and Executive Director.
We believe this position is very well suited to a dynamic and positive person who has some coaching experience; wishes to pursue coaching as a career; and would like to develop their coaching skills with athletes of all ages and skill levels, but with an emphasis on younger athletes. This is a part-time position (approximately 3 hours per evening) in May and June turning to a full-time position in the summer; July and August. This position may be extended into the fall as a part-time position for September and October (approximately 2 hours per evening).
Essential Qualifications:
• Entry Level Competitive Coach Certified as per Canoe Kayak Canada
• Safe Sport Trained*
• Knowledge of athlete training principles
• First aid, CPR-C, and AED certified*
• Must have a vulnerable sector check* or at least 2 references for applicants under 18 years, & Ontario Pleasure Craft Operators Card*
• Must be eligible to work in Canada
*these certifications need not be satisfied at the time of application or interview but must be acquired before starting the job
Assets:
• Minimum 2 years of experience coaching sprint canoe kayak programs
• Completion of University or College Education in: Kinesiology, Teaching, Recreation, and/or a similar program; or, an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience • Energetic, enthusiastic, willing to learn, positive attitude
• Entry Level Competitive Coach Advanced or Competition Development Trained • Good communication, organization, collaboration and leadership skills
• Experience coaching/coxing war canoe and dragon boat
Term: May 1 to August 22nd
