Description:

Complete Volunteer Forms prior to registering. Every child must have a membership in order to receive a tuition discount on tuition. 

Using principles from the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s (IEW) Structure and Style method, this class will introduce the principal skills you need to craft coherent writing assignments. We will practice such skills as using correct grammar and standard punctuation, developing effective topic and supporting sentences, organizing main points, creating keyword outlines from source documents, grabbing readers’ attention with interesting introductions, varying sentence openers and sentence structure and creating memorable endings. Students will engage in interactive assignments and games to enhance recall and participate in peer review of the essays they present in class.

Families provide a pencil, folder, notebook or binder with paper, access to a computer and printer and an 8-12 ct. pack of colored pencils.

Estimated homework: 2-3 hours per week 

Tuition: $120/$87.60 for volunteers
