Students examine the region’s ancient and modern history, and how United States policy affects the lives of people in various Middle East countries. Topics will include the area's ancient roots, the creation of the modern state of Israel and the subsequent Arab conflicts, the rise of OPEC, the 9/11 attack, the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, and the Arab Spring uprisings.
