Description:

Explore the art of embroidery and creative expression by creating a uniquely personalized embroidery piece from scratch.

Week 1: Drawing & Planning Your Art

Use a variety of references and inspiration, explore sketching herbs and flowers, practice sketching and drawing flowers and herbs using basic techniques. Learn about composition, scale, and what makes a drawing especially “stitchable.”

Students will receive a 7” in. embroidery hoop with stretched fabric to use as a stitch sampler to learn and practice basic stitches that will later be used to create the final embroidery piece.

Week 2: Transferring Your Art to Fabric

Students will learn to stretch and prepare a new piece of fabric for their finished piece using the provided hoop. Using a finalized sketch, students will use learned techniques to copy the design onto fabric and begin stitching their custom embroidery art!

Week 3: Stitching the Piece

Students continue to work on the piece with instructor guidance in developing stitch techniques, choosing colors, and completing their work.

Week 4: Finishing Your Embroidery

Once stitching is completed, students will learn techniques and ideas for finishing their embroidered art.

Supplies to finish the piece as a wall-hanging, to include felt and hot glue will be provided. Additional finishing ideas and methods will be discussed and left to student choice.
