Love books, and love printmaking? Join Teaching Artist Rena Karanouh through the exploration of traditional printmaking and bookbinding to combine the two mediums together! Students will become familiar with basic bookbinding techniques, such as folding, sewing, cutting, and assembling covers, as well as basic bookbinding materials: paper, fabrics, cardboard, adhesives, and tools. Demonstrations will be given during each stage of making the books.

This class also provides a comprehensive use of linoleum relief and mono-printing techniques, highlighting the uniqueness and versatility of each as an artistic technique to create a book from the prints made in class. Through both aesthetic and technical lenses, students will gain proficiency in these techniques where they learn to incorporate colour into their pieces using mediums such as collages, textures, stencils, and found materials. The class places significant emphasis on composition, design, concept, value, and colour within the printmaking context, fostering the development of creative abilities.

The creation of an image-based book is the end product of this class, with the flexibility to combine techniques.
