Description:

An appreciative survey of classical authors in philosophy, history, poetry, and drama. Each session will feature one of John's favourite passages from Plato, Herodotus, Sappho, Plautus, Apicius, and Marcus Aurelius with his handout in modern English. Comparisons will be invited between the ancients, Shakespeare's Renaissance Britain, and our Canadian world today. In addition, John will offer a newly published lyric poem at each class.

Instructor: John Edwards is the Poet Laureate of Ladysmith and the author of many translations of Greek and Latin poets and of books of his own poetry and art. He farms hay and quince in Yellow Point. John reveres Shakespeare as the greatest poet in English.
