Description:
This course explores the life and career of Premier Duff Pattullo—not the bridge! From his early years in Ontario to his adventures during the Klondike Gold Rush, his role in shaping the town of Prince Rupert, his service as Minister of Lands and Leader of the Opposition, and finally his tenure as Premier during the Depression years of the 1930s, Pattullo’s story is one of innovation and reform. His life and leadership reflect the growth and transformation of British Columbia itself. Instructor: Robin Fisher has taught British Columbia history in several universities and is the author of a number of books on the subject including a biography of Pattullo. His most recent book was the winner of the 2023 Lieutenant Governor’s medal for the best book on British Columbia history. He has taught for Elder College for several years and is the President of Mid Island Elder College.
