Biofilia is a 16 hour Grand Tour of Life, in all its forms. Living is very complicated at the molecular and cellular level. So we’re going to start with the molecules that animate Life. You will remember some of what you learned in high school, but what we have discovered in the last 10 to 20 years, thanks to molecular and digital technologies, will keep you excited and entertained. Then we will cover the whole zoo, from bacteria that rule the biosphere, to cells and plants and fungi, and finally animals. And even viruses – the most successful biological entities on the planet. Nature - the whole biosphere, is not what you think or even what you learned in school anymore. You will learn about the Tree of Life, the Web of Life, epigenetic control, symbiosis, evolution, and on and on, that all living organisms are intelligent, and who you really are. Based on the feedback I get from past students, I expect that you will be awed and entertained, and learn a lot. Biofilia means “We are all family”.

Instructor: Thierry Vrain is a retired soil biologist and genetic engineer, He spent his entire research career with the Department of Agriculture in Canada. He was the head of a research group of 40 professionals in Biotechnology, the Vice President and President of national and international associations of soil biologists, and an Associate Editor of several scientific Journals in Europe and in the USA.
He lives on Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada, a corner of paradise www.innisfreefarm.ca
