Description:

Plans are underway to send astronauts around the Moon in 2026.  Back in the 1960's, the quest for the Moon was a significant political,  technological, uncertain, and exciting challenge.   This course will explore the history of the space race, from early rocketry leading to the USSR’s Sputnik, through  America’s Apollo program and the last steps on the moon more than 50 years ago.  We will revisit the people, the events, the propaganda, the triumphs and the tragedies that allowed us to break the bonds of earth and make those first tentative steps in the great beyond.  This media-rich course will fascinate you with much rarely-seen video footage.

Instructor: Dr. Prud'homme is a former president of the Edmonton Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.  He is a lifelong learner with a keen interest in space exploration and the natural sciences.  He loves to share the excitement and awe of human space travel.
