Description:

An accessible, hands-on exploration of today’s so-called “AIs,” such as ChatGPT. What are they, really, and how do they work? Why do they seem so intelligent—and are they truly “artificial intelligence”? This course will demystify the technology behind these systems and discuss their capabilities, limitations, and real-world implications. (No computer background required.)

Instructor: Dr. McDermid is a philosopher with expertise in critical thinking, epistemology (the study of the nature of knowledge), and philosophy of science. He has just moved to the island from Montclair State University in New Jersey, where he taught for 19 years.
