Description:

Picture A Better World with Kate Snyder | Tuesday, April 8 | Ages 12+

Educators often talk about books being "mirrors and windows." Books can be mirrors, reflecting a child's own experience back to them, providing reassurance that they are not alone. Books can also be windows, allowing children to peek into lived experiences completely different from their own. Both types of representation are vitally important in helping children develop their understanding of the world. Picture books can also be tremendous tools to help children process difficult experiences in life, and to develop an early framework for social justice. Join Kate Snyder, owner of Plaid Elephant Books, for a conversation about the power of picture books.

***Registrants will have the opportunity to purchase some of Kate’s favorite books on consent and bodily autonomy–which may be great conversation starters for young minds and contextually relevant for Child Abuse Awareness Month.

If you need special accommodations, please reach out at least 72 hours before the class start date at remonica@artcenterky.org or (859) 236-4054.
