Description:

This course is designed to help students transition from VEX IQ to VEX V5, providing them with hands-on experience with new materials, tools, and necessary training to excel in the new level of the VEX robotics competition. Students will review key robotics concepts, explore the differences between IQ and V5 systems, learn about metal fabrication, power tool safety, and advanced electronics, and develop the necessary skills to build and program (C++) competitive V5 robots. By the end of this course, students will be confident in using V5 components and ready to contribute effectively to their future VEX V5 teams.

Target Students:

Students moving from VEX IQ to VEX V5 want to be prepared for their next competition season. Students who are former Blaze IQ team members.

Learning Outcome:

Identify the structural, mechanical, and programming differences between plastic snap-together IQ parts and metal V5 components. Recognize the advantages and challenges of working with V5 motors, sensors, and electronics. Learn how to cut, drill, and assemble metal parts (C-channels, gussets, etc.). Follow power tool safety protocols for drills, saws, and other essential tools. Properly connect motors, sensors, and the V5 Brain. Organize and manage wiring and power distribution for competition robots. Write basic motor control programs in C++ using VEX V5. Understand and use functions, loops, conditionals, and event-based programming. Implement both autonomous and driver-controlled code using the VEX competition template. Work collaboratively to build and program a functional VEX V5 robot. Troubleshoot and refine mechanical and programming issues
