About our garden

The rooftop garden, located on the top of the BRCA Community Hall, began in the spring of 2014. The garden includes 26 individual small and large plots that can be rented for a season. Our community garden is about bringing the community together, getting to know your neighbours and providing a beautiful space in our community for everyone to enjoy. As a BRCA Rooftop Gardener, you're an important part of helping to grow our vibrant community.

Our gardening season

The rooftop garden begins with a communal spring clean-up in May and ends with a fall clean-up and harvest in October.  Both events are mandatory if you have rented a garden plot. Depending on the weather, the start and end of the season may shift. The BRCA Rooftop Garden Committee communicates via email with gardeners regarding dates for clean-ups, events, maintenance issues and garden news. We are also offering a limited number of plots for those who are interested in year-round gardening, so that you can extend your growing season in the spring and fall. Please note, though that the outside water is shut off in October and turned on again in April.

How can I become a Rooftop Gardener?

In order to join the BRCA Rooftop Garden, you must be a resident of Bridgeland Riverside and you must be a member of the BRCA (Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association). You will be asked to select your membership during the garden application process. Preference is given to persons living in apartments and condos.

Membership fees for 2025 are free with options to donate. Applications for the 2025 growing season will be open March 1 – April 1 to all BRCA Members! If you are interested, please fill out our online application.

How much does a garden plot cost?

There is no cost to submit an application. Should you be awarded a plot the fees are:

After the application process closes, gardeners will be provided with an orientation package, assigned their plot number, and sent a link to register and pay for their plot fees. At this time gardeners will also be asked to sign the BRCA Rooftop Garden Contract.

Garden rules

All gardeners must commit to participate, take care of their plots (it is hard work!), and be considerate. Please familiarize yourself with our gardening rules prior to submitting your application. Garden Rules
