Description:

Swimming Fundamentals Lessons-Week 1 (June 15-18); $96/week (M-TH); Meet at SYVUHS pool from 4:00-4:45 PM. 

*This week is pro-rated because it is a 4 day week due to the Juneteenth Holiday on June 19th. Classes will run Monday-Thursday.

Requirements to join this class:

  • Must be at least 2 years old on the first day of class
  • Must be at potty trained or have a toileting routine
  • Must be able to participate without parent or guardian assistance
  • Must be able to listen and follow directions (remain on the stairs when it is not the participant’s turn)
  • Must be able to enter the water at the staircase unassisted
  • Must be able to float on back unassisted for 10 seconds and recover to standing
  • Must be able to float on stomach for 5 seconds unassisted and recover to standing
  • Must be able to fully submerge while holding breath

Description:

  • Learning to move through the water purposefully
  • Continued focus on water safety, particularly when swimmers cannot rely on the wall or floor

Goals:

  • Learn streamline position
  • Glide in streamline
  • Flutter kick in steamline
  • Front crawl stroke
  • Dolphin Kick
  • Breaststroke kick
  • Elementary back stroke
  • Retrieve object from the bottom of the pool
  • Jump into the pool and recover to the wall
  • Introduce treading water
  • Bobbing while moving forward
