Description:

This class for 3rd-8th graders is a full day of fun-packed adventure and learning on the river with Canyon River Instruction's certified instructors. During a day of paddle rafting on the Arkansas River, kids will learn the basics of river safety, such as how to safely swim through rapids, how to pull themselves back in a raft, recognize and avoid hazards, and how to help rescue their friends!

Equipment is provided. Kids are welcome to use their own PFD & Helmet as long as they are whitewater appropriate.

Required age: 8 - 14 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: Check-in will be at Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center at 410 W. Rainbow Blvd., Salida, CO. Participants will be shuttled in Canyon River Instruction vehicles with instructors, from the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center to the Salida East put-in, and from the Rincon take-out back to the Aquatic Center for pick up. Please note: put-in and take-out locations are subject to change due to water levels and weather considerations. For participants comfort, wear river appropriate clothing that is quick-dry and will fit under a wet suit. Avoid cotton. We recommend wearing swimsuits and/or quick-dry, synthetic clothing like board shorts and a rash guard or sun shirt. Bring a set of dry clothes to change into after class. The Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center has both men's and women's locker rooms, as well as all-gender restrooms. Put-in and take-out locations have restrooms as well. Bring your own refillable water bottle, snacks, lunch, and sunscreen. Please prepare your child based on their individual needs.

Prerequisites: Closed-toed shoes that will stay on while swimming are required.
