Yin Yoga is complementary to more dynamic and invigorating yoga styles. In a Yin approach to yoga, the practitioner utilizes long held, passive, floor-based postures, in order to access a safe and positive stress on the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. As this practice emphasizes stillness and silence, Yin Yoga prepares both the body and the mind for deeper experiences in meditation. Drawing from themes in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Theory, instructor Laura Kathrein structures each class to emphasize various target areas and the corresponding energetic and anatomical benefits.
Meet Laura:
Laura joins the C3 team as a dance, art, and circus educator! Laura harnesses the power of movement as a means to increase environmental awareness and community engagement. While growing up in the Chicago-land area, Laura trained extensively in Classical Ballet, Modern, and Jazz. She began teaching dance in high school and continued her work as a dance teacher and choreographer during her pursuit of a B.S. in Outdoor Education as a member and co-Artistic Director with Rock Hard Modern Dance at Ithaca College.
Her experiences in outdoor adventure, natural sciences, fine arts, and dance inspired her to pursue her M. Ed. in Community Arts at Lesley University. Since finishing her degree she has worked in STEAM after school programs in the Boston area where she integrates the arts into curriculum for elementary school children. As a freelance artist, her work is featured in a permanent instillation at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem as well as an online dance video catalog of over four years dancing daily, Miracle of Movement. Laura came to C3 the first week it opened in the hopes of expanding her movement practice and was incredibly excited to find such an open and inclusive circus community.
