Description:
This two day workshop is suited for creatives of any level who are interested in learning about the formal elements that drive modern art. Our class will be a combination of lecture, studio time for creating, and practice of key modern elements, ending with a class group critique.
What are the formal elements that define modern art? Rejection of allegory, narrative, and representation. Emphasis on line, mark making, form, shape, color, concept of the grid - equal emphasis of the 2-D surface. What are some art movements that are considered modern? Op Art, Pop Art, Impressionism, Constructivism, Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism. Who are some modernist artists? Bridget Riley, Andy Warhol, Manet, Rodchenko, Joan Mitchell, Frank Stella.
This workshop will give you the formal tools to approach your work with with a new visual vocabulary and fresh lens!!!

Notes: All materials will be supplied with a $15 fee, payable to your instructor at the start of the first class session.
Prerequisites: This class is open to beginners as well as those who want to build on previous experience.
