Description:

Explore the foundations of oil painting from locally beloved artist Phil Lear (learn more about his career here). This class will be geared at approaching the mysteries of oils at the beginner's level. The lesson plan will be loose and adapting to students' needs and problem areas, with a goal toward cultivating skills at color mixing, value relationships, and handling of paint. Returning students will have the opportunity to refine their skills and practice new techniques.

Notes: Please bring: a palette knife small palette odorless paint thinner/mineral spirits + a sealable container to hold it (glass jar or silicoil will work) rags or paper towels student pack of oil paints (this one is an economical place to start) a few 11x14 canvases or canvas panels bristle brushes (make sure they are recommended for oil paint—not acrylic or watercolor): one large, one medium, and one small

Prerequisites: This class is perfect for novices or for those wishing to refresh skills learned in past classes.
