Description:
Join renowned Squamish Nation master carver Xwalacktun (Rick Harry) for an in-depth wood relief carving workshop at Create Makerspace. Internationally recognized for his public artworks, cultural leadership, and decades of teaching, Xwalacktun brings both exceptional skill and a warm, generous teaching style. In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of relief carving while learning about the cultural significance behind Indigenous imagery and design. Guided step-by-step by Xwalacktun, each participant will develop and carve their own design into a red cedar tablet—shaping, carving, and finishing a unique piece to take home. No prior experience is required; all tools and materials are provided. Participants are welcome to utilize the tools made in the Carving Tool Making Workshop with Matthew Cole, which will happen prior to this one.
