Description:

These classes are designed to help students develop a stronger understanding of the foundational elements of music.  Through written exercises, listening activities, and hands-on application, students will build skills that support vocal training, instrumental study, audition preparation, and overall musicianship. Topics may include note reading, rhythm, key signatures, scales, intervals, chord structure, ear training, and music terminology and analysis.

Music Theory I is intended for students with little to no prior theory experience, this level focuses on building a solid musical foundation through introductory concepts such as rhythm reading and dictation, basic notation, scales, and beginning ear training.

Students are encouraged to enroll in the level that best matches their current musical background and experience.
