The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary promotes compassion and acceptance for all beings through humane education, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship that keep animals free from harm in homes and in their native habitats. Located on 34 restored acres in Newtown, Connecticut, the sanctuary combines empathy-based education, programs that help vulnerable seniors in federally funded housing keep their animals, pet rescue and adoption partnerships, and active wildlife habitat stewardship. Each year tens of thousands of people engage with the sanctuary’s programs, learning that caring for animals and caring for the natural world are inseparable. Founded in memory of Catherine, whose love for animals was boundless, the sanctuary is a living example demonstrating that when we nurture compassion in people, we protect animals, strengthen communities, and steward the environment for generations to come.
