Dance Arts Institute

Dance Arts Institute was established in 1968, and is devoted to providing a broad spectrum of movement classes.

Description

For more than 50 years, Dance Arts Institute (formerly The School of Toronto Dance Theatre) has been training dancers who have been inspired by the depth of passion and the physical power of the human body in motion. Dance is an art form of kinetic expression, which both represents and reflects back to us our understanding of the world through the elements of time, space, energy, musicality, and dynamics. It can provoke joy and wonder, sadness and despair, humour and delight, and deep feelings of passion and spiritual awareness. As an art form it keeps us profoundly in touch with others, with our environment, and with ourselves. Dance Arts is devoted to providing a broad spectrum of movement classes for the serious dance artist and for the community. It comprises four divisions: - Professional Training Program (PTP): a full-time, three-year, post-secondary program providing training to students intent on a career in contemporary dance - Summer Intensives: an intensive summer program for serious students and young professionals - Adult Recreational Classes: weekly drop-in classes and term courses for the recreational dancer - Young Dancers’ Program (YDP): weekly classes introducing children and young people ages 3 to 17 to creative movement and contemporary dance.
