Looking for a date night that’s hands-on, creative, and a little out of the ordinary? In this fun and engaging wood lathe class, you and your partner will learn the basics of one of the most popular tools in the woodshop while creating something meaningful together. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, this experience is all about trying something new and making memories side by side.

With guidance from our instructor, you’ll work through the full lathe process from start to finish — mounting a wood blank, rounding, shaping, sanding, and finishing your piece. Projects are selected by the instructor and may include bottle openers, bud vases, candlestick holders, or other functional pieces that make great handmade gifts or keepsakes from your night in the shop.

Along the way, you’ll learn proper lathe operation and safe use of two essential shaping tools: the spindle roughing gouge and carbide tip scrapers. Upon successful completion of the class, each participant will receive DIYcave lathe certification, allowing you to return and continue creating on your own.

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.

Required age: Over 13 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: Please arrive for class in closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Layers are encouraged as the shop can be very cold or very hot. If you have personal protective equipment such as your own safety goggles, please bring it with you. Otherwise, protective gear will be provided as needed. Prerequisites: No Experience Needed! Two Students Minimum Per Booking Ages 13+ welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Both need to register and pay.
