Description:

Kick off Kiln Club with a foundational technique that teaches you how to truly design for the kiln. In this three-week series, we’ll explore kiln carving using ceramic fiber paper to create relief, texture, words, and simple imagery that permanently fuse into the surface of glass.

We’ll begin with a low-pressure New Year wish dish, focusing on shallow relief and intentional design, then build toward deeper carving with more dramatic sculptural payoff. This progression allows you to develop confidence while learning how glass responds to depth, thickness, and heatwork.

You’ll learn:

  • How kiln carving works and when to use it

  • Carving techniques with ceramic fiber paper

  • Designing shallow vs deep relief

  • Using transparency and opacity intentionally

  • How thickness and mass affect glass movement

Projects may include:

  • Textured tiles

  • Symbolic or word-based dishes

  • Carved signatures or bold graphic forms

Pricing Includes

  • 3 guided sessions

  • Multiple firings

  • Fiber paper & damming materials

  • Kiln carving instruction and critique

About Kiln Club:

We are a Project Club where fused glass artists gather, fire it up, figure it out and learn something new each month.

Looking for a fun, social, and creative way to explore new fused glass techniques? Join our community of glass lovers for monthly fused glass projects — think book club, but with color combos, kilns, and creative sparks.

Each month, we choose a project for the group to complete together. We don't portray we know what we are doing — just willing to lead the way by picking the technique, sharing a tutorial or handout, and providing the needed supplies. We’ll meet weekly throughout to work on the project side by side, ask questions, swap tips, and cheer each other on.

Spots are limited to 8. Whether you're trying something totally new or helping others learn your favorite technique, this is your space to experiment, connect, and grow as an artist.
