This Mother’s Day, skip the brunch and flowers and do something a little more unforgettable. This hands-on metal cutting and welding class is a powerful, confidence-boosting experience—perfect for moms who love learning new skills, working with their hands, or trying something totally unexpected.

We’ll start with shop safety and a friendly introduction to the tools, then dive right in. Students will cut steel using a plasma cutter, prep and fit their pieces, and weld them back together using a MIG welder. With plenty of guided practice time, you’ll build confidence and see how heat, angle, and movement come together to create strong, beautiful welds.

Come on your own, bring your kid, your partner, or make it a Mother’s Day date with someone you love. This class is about strength, creativity, and walking away proud of what you made.

What you’ll learn:

• Basic shop safety and proper use of welding PPE

• How to safely operate a plasma cutter to cut steel

• How to prep, fit, and tack steel pieces before welding

• Fundamentals of MIG welding, including settings, angles, and technique

• How heat and movement affect weld strength and appearance

• Tips for troubleshooting common beginner welding issues

By the end of class, you’ll have a solid understanding of welding fundamentals, a finished practice piece to take home, and that I just welded steel feeling that lasts way longer than a bouquet.

No prior welding experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.

Notes: Please arrive for class in closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Layers are encouraged as the shop can be very cold or very hot. If you have personal protective equipment such as your own safety goggles, please bring it with you. Otherwise, protective gear will be provided as needed. Prerequisites: No Experience Needed! Ages 13+ welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Both need to register and pay.
