This hands-on class introduces young makers to the exciting world of welding in a safe, instructor-guided environment. Kids will learn how metal can be cut, joined, and transformed into something strong and creative.

Students will cut steel using a torch, then weld those pieces back together while learning proper tool handling, safety practices, and basic welding techniques. Along the way, they’ll experiment with shaping and assembling their pieces, turning raw metal into a one-of-a-kind creation they’ll take home at the end of class.

What Your Kids Will learn:

• Metal shop safety and proper use of protective equipment

• How to safely cut steel using a torch

• Basic welding fundamentals and technique

• How to fit, tack, and weld metal pieces together

• How heat affects metal during cutting and welding

• Confidence working with tools in a creative, supervised setting

This workshop is designed to build confidence, curiosity, and respect for powerful tools. Beginners and intermediate beginners are welcome, and students will naturally progress in their skill level as they practice and explore. For many kids, this is a truly memorable introduction to making with metal—one that sticks with them long after the class ends.

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.

Required age: 10 - 17 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: Please arrive for class in closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Layers are encouraged as the shop can be very cold or very hot. If you have personal protective equipment such as your own safety goggles, please bring it with you. Otherwise, protective gear will be provided as needed.
