Do you have a special object you cherish that reminds you of an experience, place in time, a treasured pet, someone you love, or maybe it’s a concept like world peace or equality. In this workshop you will make a unique hand-built reliquary to display or hide your object in a safe place. A reliquary is a container or shrine in which sacred relics are kept. The definition of reliquary refences religion, but in this case, it is your choice to highlight and create a special place for anything you cherish.

Duration: This workshop will have 3 sessions total. You must be available to attend all 3 sessions.

Cost: $120 for members, $160 for non-members 
Supplies: clay purchased through Emerge, all other supplies included

Dates: March 8, March 9, and March 22 (3 day workshop)

Session 1: Saturday, March 8 -- 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Create the reliquary with either or a combination of coil and slab built forms. You must bring the object/idea the reliquary holds and your collections to use on your piece. Your object must be small enough to fit in your hand.

Session 2: Sunday, March 9 -- 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Embellish and refine your forms. Decide how the interior and exterior will express something about the object that it is made for.

Session 3: Saturday, March 22-- 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Use acrylic paints, gold leaf, glass, stained glass, beads, marbles, feathers, leather, etc. for any surface application that creates a cohesive design with your bisque form. We will supply a few collections of things to embellish the reliquaries, but you are welcome to bring additional materials. You must bring the object/idea the reliquary holds and your collections to install on your piece.
