Leonardo Da Vinci: Mechanical Engineering and Invention

Step into the world of Leonardo Da Vinci, where art meets engineering! In this hands-on class, students will explore some of Da Vinci’s most fascinating inventions while learning key mechanical engineering principles. From building simple machines like pulleys and gears to designing their own flying machines inspired by Da Vinci’s sketches, students will discover how mechanics and creativity work together. Each week will bring new challenges, including constructing catapults, experimenting with the golden ratio in design, and understanding how Da Vinci’s ideas laid the foundation for modern engineering. This class encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, and hands-on building, making engineering both fun and inspiring!

Program Overview

Join us for an inspiring journey through the minds of history’s greatest engineers! This semester is divided into three sessions, each focused on a visionary whose work shaped the future. From Tesla’s high-energy inventions to Da Vinci’s elegant mechanics and Turing’s groundbreaking contributions to computing, students will explore diverse fields of engineering and design. Through hands-on projects, each session encourages creativity, critical thinking, and innovation, offering a comprehensive look at how engineering pioneers changed the world—and how students can follow in their footsteps.
