Description:
In order to keep our girls active, FSH created the popular Summer Dreams program which runs for 4 weeks, Monday through Thursday. Students enjoy a daily variety of academic enrichment classes and cultural trips followed by skating instruction, participating in a total of 35 hours per week. This four-week program provides an opportunity for students to receive academic and social-emotional support while learning/honing their skating skills. We look forward to welcoming them this summer! Frequently Asked Questions 1. What is a typical day at Summer Dreams? Programming starts at 10:00 AM where students are separated into their cohorts. Students will be with us for the first part of the day from 10:00 AM-2:30 PM, working on a project-based curriculum along with participating in activities such as dance and movement at the FSH Academic Center. Students are then transported to the rink where they receive 1 hour and 20 minutes of skating lessons. They are then transported back to the Academic Center for pickup at 6:00 PM. Families requesting early drop-off can sign up for this program at 8:30 AM for an additional fee. In addition, our social work team will also be available to provide social-emotional support and life skills training to support your child's overall development. 2. What is the Summer Dreams schedule? Summer Dreams runs from July 8-August 8, Monday-Thursday, from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM. Academic enrichment occurs every day Monday-Thursday from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM and skating occurs from 2:00-6:00 PM. Cultural trips are also part of the programming. A full calendar will be provided to all registered families. 3. Where are skating lessons held? Skating lessons will be held at an indoor rink, generally City Ice Pavilion or World Ice Arena here in NYC, and students will be transported by private bus. 4. Do students have to attend the full four weeks? We are enrolling students for all 4 weeks. At this time, we are unable to accommodate a per week summer program. Students will be allowed three absences throughout the summer. 5. Do students have to bring their own lunch and snacks? Students must bring their own lunch. Snacks will be provided. 6. Will FSH offer a sliding scale for Summer Dreams? Given the overall cost of the Summer Dreams program, FSH will not be offering sliding scale tuition for this program. Families experiencing any type of hardship should reach out to registration@figureskatinginharlem.org with the subject line "SD Hardship". Please indicate the nature of the hardship along with any supporting documentation. These requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and where possible FSH may provide discounted rates once approved.
