Kleptz YMCA Youth LEARN-TO-SWIM LEVEL 5: STROKE REFINEMENT
(ages 6-12)

In Level 5, participants refine their performance of all six strokes (i.e., front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase the distances that they swim. Participants also learn to perform flip turns on the front and back.

Required age: 6 - 12 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: Lessons on October 10, 17, 24, 31, November 7, 14, and 21, and December 5th

Prerequisites: Completed Level 4 Exit Skills Assessment with Certified Water Safety Instructor 1. Perform a feet first entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards. 2. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim back crawl for 15 yards. 3. Submerge and swim a distance of 3 to 5 body lengths underwater without hyperventilating, return to the surface, then exit the water.
