Description:

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program trains participants to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Through a combination of online video training, classroom instruction and hands-on water practice, lifeguards learn essential skills such as water rescues, surveillance techniques, CPR, AED use, and first aid for adults, children, and infants. The course emphasizes safety, teamwork, and effective communication to maintain a secure aquatic environment. Upon successful completion, participants earn nationally recognized Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED, qualifying them to work at pools, across the United States.

A competency swim is required before the class to prove efficiency in the water.  Attendance on all days and times is mandatory.

Required age: 15 - 99 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: Lifeguard Competency Swim • Swim 150 yard continuously using front craw or breaststroke or a combination of both. Demonstrate comfort in the water, swim with face in the water, demonstrate breath control and maintain body position that is nearly horizontal to the surface. Must use above-water arm recovery for front crawl and leg action contributes to forward momentum. • 2 minutes of treading water at surface of the water, legs only. Swim 50 more yards then complete timed event. • Timed event is for 1 minute, 40 seconds. Swim 20 yards as fast as you can, submerge and retrieve a 10 pound object in both hands. While keeping your face 0out of the water back stroke with legs only still holding object the 20 yards to start and exit the water without using the steps or ladder.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 15. Participants under the age of 18 must have parental consent to participate in the course. Participants must have some knowledge of swimming and must pass a physical test
