Maker Nexus
We provide the tools, resources, and training anyone may need to make their creative ideas a reality. Maker Nexus is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Craft and Tech Teen Makers is designed specifically for the innovative minds of 13 to 17-year-olds. This camp offers advanced maker projects that challenge and expand the skills and imaginations of our older campers.
We empower our young makers to decide collectively on the projects they do each day, ensuring that each activity mirrors our campers' unique creativity and interests. Using the tools in our well-equipped makerspace, campers will choose from a variety of projects that blend art, technology, and craftsmanship.
Here's a preview of some exciting projects they might choose from:
Upcycled Metal Birds: Create intricate birds from upcycled silverware, using simple welding techniques to bring your creations to life.
Sumo Bots: Build and code your bots, then break into teams for the ultimate bot showdown. Last one in the ring wins!
Precious Metal Clay Jewelry: Design and craft exquisite jewelry with precious metal clay. This unique material transforms into pure silver when heated.
Stained Glass Sun Catchers: Cut, solder, and assemble colorful pieces into beautiful designs.
Digital Fashion Design: Create original graphic designs in Procreate, then bring them to life on t-shirts, totes, or hoodies using our direct-to-garment printer.
Resin Crafts: Explore two types of resin work - crafting personalized tumblers with alcohol ink, vinyl, glitter, or rhinestones, and creating trendy splash vases or wave bowls with epoxy resin.
Photographs on Metal: Transfer your favorite photographs onto metal using our sublimation printer, creating lasting memories and unique artwork.
Visible Mending: Turn a hole in your shirt into a work of art! Learn to use cool stitches and creative patching to make your old clothes super trendy.
Soft Circuits: Integrate conductive thread and LEDs into clothing for a surprise light-up effect.
Neon Flex Lights: Design and laser cut a unique acrylic shape, then learn to solder neon flex LEDs to create a cool, personalized neon light.
Secret Puzzle Boxes: Use our laser cutter to create a box with a secret locking mechanism, perfect for hiding your treasures.
Bohemian Baskets: Craft rope baskets with fabric scraps, adding stylish leather handles for a unique storage solution.
Jewelrymaking, 3 Ways: Create a digital design for a pendant or bracelet and bring it to life using three different techniques: 3D printing, laser cutting, and hand crafting with leather or hammered metal.
Upcycled Tote Bags: Create a one-of-a-kind tote bag from coffee bean sacks for a distinctive upcycled look.
Each participant will work with at least four different mediums, creating items they will be proud to showcase. On the final day, campers will showcase their projects, explain their techniques, and demonstrate how they utilized our space.
Because our projects change from week to week, every camp is different! Enroll in multiple weeks for more explorations in creativity.
