Description:

Exploring Sea Floors
Journey to the dynamic interfaces of mud and sand with an engaging exploration of diverse sea floor habitats! Students will start by learning about sediment types and geology, drawing connections to the rock cycle. The day’s activities include delving into the muddy depths of the Bay to discover the benthic creatures that call it home and contrasting this with a beachside investigation into the world of sand. Using magnets and magnifying glasses, students will uncover the secrets of sand composition and explore its varied textures and colors. This hands-on experience highlights the unique characteristics of mud and sand habitats, fostering a deeper understanding of their roles in the marine environment.

Required age: 5 - 11 years old on the day of the activity

Prerequisites: Students must be entering K - 5th grades.
