Description:

West African Dance explores the traditional songs, dances and rhythms from various cultures in the region. These dances practiced as communal activities are often central to key life events and celebrations, such as weddings, harvest festivals, funerals, and more. Every rhythm and dance carry great cultural significance which will be explored and celebrated every week. Classes feature live drumming and are centered on teaching energetic and precise movements that engage the entire body –from head to toe!

Students will learn to:

Engage the entire body in movement

Move different body parts simultaneously to different parts of the rhythm

Use grounded movements that maintain a connection to the floor
