Description:
Ages 14-18 - $300/week session, $75/day drop-in Make this summer unforgettable for your teen by enrolling them in Archery Academy Camp at The Quiver! Our Level 3 USA Archery & Safesport Certified Staff will provide individualized archery experience for campers. Each day will include exciting activities that integrate Science, History, Social Studies, and Math with archery. Campers will also have the opportunity to earn awards! We aim to combine a love of archery with a love of learning, giving campers a practical application to their academic pursuits. Topics covered: Monday - Modern Archery Equipment and Range Safety (Language Arts) Explore different modern equipment used in competitive archery. Try out various release aids and recurves with sights. Learn archery equipment terminology and discover modern phrases derived from archery. End the day with an Olympic-style match to understand how scoring works at the Olympics (Be prepared to watch archers in Paris next year!) Tuesday - Historical Equipment & Atlatls (History) Get a chance to use a Pre-Historic Atlatal, then explore the evolution of archery throughout history. Experience what it takes to pierce chain mail and learn about the technological advancements that enable arrows to fly farther and faster. Try shooting arrows of varying spine and weight to observe the differences. Wednesday - Archery around the World (Social Studies) Embark on a journey around the world to investigate archery in multiple cultures. Study the unique double bows of the Penobscot Indians, the asymmetrical Japanese Yumi, Korean Tonga and Jun Jun, and many other types of equipment. Engage in leatherworking to create thumb pads and explore shooting techniques with an Eastern thumb draw. Finish the day by learning how to score with a Turkish Puta target. Thursday - The Science of Archery (Physics) Delve into the physics behind different options for arrows and bows. Explore how air drag affects arrow flight. Create fletched fluflu arrows for a clout archery match (similar to lawn darts but with arrows). Amazium will provide fun activities to help us explore the science concepts at play. Friday - Competition Day (Mental Focus and Math) Today brings everything together! We will work with score cards and engage in various competitions we have learned about throughout the week. Campers will participate in team matches like Olympians, throw atlatls like Aboriginal hunters, shoot at Puta targets like Turkish warriors, and compete in a Clout competition like English royalty.
