Pekin Park District’s tumble, dance and cheer program is designed to develop coordination, balance, flexibility, and fitness in both girls and boys who are ready to learn. Physical development is one of the main benefits these classes have for children as they learn a great range of motion, body awareness, balance, muscle strength, coordination, and endurance. All classes are taught with a fun-to-learn approach and are held at the Gym & Dance Studios located within Veterans Memorial Arena.
A note about our classes:
Our more popular classes fill up quickly. Classes may be added, moved, combined or dropped depending upon enrollment numbers.
What do I wear to Tumble, Dance and Cheer classes? For their safety, tumblers wear leotards or elastic waistband shorts with a T-shirt tucked in tightly (please no baggy shirts or jeans). Tumblers are barefooted or wear non-skid tumbling shoes. Hair needs to be pulled back away from the face. No jewelry, please. Cheer wears a white tennis shoe (or cheer shoe). These shoes are to be worn in the gym only; no outside street shoes will be allowed on the tumble trak.
Dancers wear leotards, tights or t-shirt with dance appropriate pants. All ballet classes wear pink ballet shoes; hip hop classes wear black slip-on jazz shoes. Hair needs to be pulled back away from the face. No blue jeans or loose-fitting pants, please.
Policy regarding observation of classes:
Because students focus and concentrate better without mom or dad in the class, family and friends are not allowed in the classroom during the session. Instead we offer “Watch Week”, a time family and friends are invited to watch their dancer during the last 15 minutes of class so youcan see how much progress they have made! “Watch Week” dates to be announced.
