Dear Friend,

You are probably already aware of the alarming increase in antisemitism in Canada over the last year. According to a new national survey, young Canadians are twice as likely as older people to say that Jews exaggerate the Holocaust; half of those who agree with that statement hold a negative opinion of the Jewish community.

In Winnipeg recently, a pro-Palestinian demonstration featured grade-school children chanting “all Zionists are racists.” Other rallies have called for the destruction of the “disease” of Zionism. Here and throughout Canada, Jewish schools and synagogues have been vandalized, and shots have been fired at some of them.

Last year, the number of antisemitic incidents in Canada more than doubled; B’nai Brith recorded the largest number since it began publishing its annual audit 40 years ago. As the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs reported in July 2024, Jews were targeted in 70 percent of all religion-motivated hate crimes though they make up only one per cent of the Canadian population. Many Jews no doubt feel that their community is under siege.

Now more than at any other time since the Holocaust, Jews need allies in the non-Jewish community to stand with them and push back against this tide of antisemitism. We are writing to you today to ask for your support in building an organization that will do just that.

Our professional development program consists of a lecture series and tours of relevant historical sites in Europe. By visiting sites where the genocide unfolded, educators will gain a much deeper understanding of the perils of unchecked antisemitism than can be gained from conventional classroom learning. They will then be better prepared to teach these essential lessons to the next generation of Manitoba students.

But we need your donations to help realize our vision.

These types of tours carry significant costs. Please consider helping with a donation. You can donate via the Rady JCC through this secure page. Donations for $100.00 or more will be issued a tax receipt.
