Saplings Outdoor Program after-school care program offers a unique opportunity for children to learn and explore in a natural setting. Our program is designed to deliver a high-quality learning experience that focuses on the development of physical, emotional, and socio-cultural skills of children. We provide a safe, secure, and inclusive environment where children can learn to appreciate nature and the outdoors, while also developing their social and emotional skills through various interactive and fun activities. Our program adapts to the interests and wondering of our children, whether it's exploring the biodiversity of the flora and fauna, playing classic childhood games or creating fairy houses and bow and arrows. Our after-school care program is an excellent way to help encourage your child's curiosity, independence, self-confidence, and awareness in the natural world, all while enjoying the benefits of being in the great outdoors.

What is the educator to child ratio?
For school age programs, we typically have a 1-10 ratio, however, the legal ratio is 1-15.
Is there an inside facility?
No, this program is run completely outside. Children may have access to the public washrooms or school washrooms
What’s the cancellation policy?
A one month written notice is required for all cancellations.
Is this program eligible for subsidy?
No, this is an unlicensed program. As such, it is not eligible for subsidy.
What happens if it rains?
At Saplings, we believe there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. When you register, you will receive a list of suggested gear to keep your child comfortable in all weather. When it rains, we use tarps to build shelters, share hot tea and bring reusable hand warmers for the children. But the most vital thing we do is keep a positive attitude! Our attitudes about the weather influence the way we feel about it and the way the children feel about it. When we hit rain season, we’re sure you’ll see our educators joining the children in jumping through puddles and singing in the rain!
Do my children have to bring rain gear?
Yes!! Remember this is an OUTDOOR program. The children must be prepared for the weather so they can fully participate and enjoy the program.
Will my children get muddy and dirty at after school care?
Yes, they absolutely will! Our program is about forming connections with nature and learning through nature. We need to get messy to do this! Packing your child with appropriate gear helps make less laundry for parents and keeps the children comfortable in their daily adventures.
Will snacks be provided?
No. Parents are encouraged to pack their children an extra snack to eat after school.
What do the children do at Saplings?
Each day at Saplings is a little different. Our program capitalizes on children’s intrinsic desire to learn, play and discover the world around them. We adapt our program to the natural pace of the children, and allow them to explore their interests to the fullest. Some of the nature based activities include fort and shelter making, fairyhouse building, and nature art.
