Description:
The TK (aka gote shibari, box tie) is a core upper body harness in traditional Japanese Shibari. It is nuanced to tie, however, and numerous pitfalls can make it unsustainable in many cases. Adapting this harness to a specific person requires a thorough understanding not only of the rope itself, but also the involved anatomy. In this workshop, we will review the relevant anatomy of the shoulder joint and associated structures, implications for body positioning and harness design, and techniques to assess range of motion and resting muscular tone to guide choices when planning a TK. We will focus on body positioning rather than any specific TK technique. Though most of the workshop will be groundwork, there will be suspension points available to demo and briefly test out different positions, for those experienced with suspension. This workshop is open to tying pairs and individuals.
Available: 21/24
Price: $35.00 Taxes waived
Required age: Over 18 years old on the day of the activity
Prerequisites: Familiarity with tying a 2-rope TK. Fliers should know how to monitor for nerve compression. We will be on-site and available to demonstrate a basic 2-rope TK prior to the workshop (~30 min before) for those that would like to review this harness. Material requirements are 2-3 hanks of 30 foot rope and a cutting tool.
