As the forest comes back to life in spring, we will explore all the fantastical botanicals that are blooming in Umstead! Campers will experience plants in a whole new way as we use them to make art, tasty treats, and usable tools. Campers will have a chance to learn about some amazing properties of plants this week as we search for natural insect repellant, natural dyes, and edible plants. Campers will leave this week with a newfound knowledge and appreciation of the plants around them!

Our Discovery Days offer students a chance to enjoy the outdoor fun and adventure of Schoolhouse of Wonder when they have a free day from school routines. Each camp day will be different, but each one will involve games and exploration. Join us for deep woods and meadow games, fort building, whittling, stories and songs around the campfire and an opportunity to build your earth skills and knowledge of the natural world. Activities will vary seasonally.

Let’s go on a hunt! Not for animals but for some cool new places for games, forts, and basecamps! We’ll go exploring to find hidden, secret, and untrodden parts of the forest. Along the way we'll learn about how we can use the trees and the sun to orient ourselves, how to use landmarks in navigation, and we'll practice the basics of a compass. Will we discover a whole new part of the forest? New plants or animals? Come join us for a week of adventure! (And if we find a new great place, we get to name it!)
