Description:
Sharron Simpson
Kelowna has changed so significantly over the last few years that we've lost many stories of its early pioneers. Some were lords and ladies, some were scoundrels and colourful characters, but others were hard working, often idealistic young people looking for another way to live. They rowed from one end of the lake to the other, built elaborate irrigation schemes, learned as their orchards flourished - or not, played polo, held balls, acted in elaborate theatrical productions, built churches and schools, and created the city we now celebrate. Come and learn, be entertained and amazed at what was accomplished, as told by the author of the definitive history of Kelowna.
Born and raised in Kelowna, Sharron left to attend UBC and then set off to explore the rest of world. She has lived in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, attended various universities and gathered a variety of degrees and has enjoyed an eclectic career as a social worker, stockbroker, politician. For several years, Sharron taught memoir writing in conjunction with the Kelowna Heritage Museum. She has authored four books about various aspects of Kelowna’s history along with innumerable articles and is the local editor for the Okanagan Historical Society Annual Report. Sharron is a passionate advocate for both writing our family stories and preserving our community heritage and is currently writing a travel memoir.
