Description:
Dan Bruce
Port Royal, 'the wickedest city on Earth', slid into the sea as an earthquake struck in 1692. In this one session class, we will find out if it was wicked, (and in whose opinion) and also look at the reality behind the movie version. I will introduce some of the well-known and some of the lesser players in the dramatic story such as Henry Morgan and Sir Anthony Shirley. We'll have a quick look at the way in which Queen Elizabeth I and Charles II played the game at arm's length and won.
Dan Bruce has dedicated more than 50 years to heritage work. A London University graduate in Anthropology, he trained as a curator at the British Museum, London. He has curated and consulted with museums throughout BC’s interior. Dan began work with the Friends of Fintry in 2002, as the curator of the heritage buildings and has helped recreate the Manor House, now a heritage showpiece, with countless exhibits of historical significance. He also enjoys passing his knowledge along to others and has presented at SLR for several years.
