Sharing the stories of the region from East Sooke to Port Renfrew through exhibits, programs and events.
Description
The Sooke Region Museum is a not-for-profit, charitable institution in the service of society to research, collect, conserve, interpret and exhibit tangible and intangible cultural and natural heritage. We aim to be accessible and inclusive, fostering diversity and sustainability. We explore the cultural and natural heritage of the region from East Sooke to Port Renfrew, including the municipality of Sooke and unincorporated communities of Otter Point, Shirley and Jordan River on the lands of the T’Sou-ke, Pacheedaht, and Scia’new people. As the regional Visitor Centre, we provide maps, community information, and details on local attractions, businesses and events. We also have local artisan work and an extensive selection of books about local culture and heritage in our gift shop. We aim to operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with the participation of community members, offering varied experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing through exhibits, school programs, workshops, author/speaker series and events.
