Description:
The Mentor In Training (MIT) Program Summer 2025 is an immersive leadership development experience for youth ages 14–17 who are ready to take the next step in nature connection, leadership, and real-world work experience, Mentors In Training work directly with GOS instructors for an enriched experience focused on advancing naturalist skills, exploring the art of mentorship, and cultivating professional habits that empower youth to step into meaningful leadership roles — at camp and beyond. The program begins with three dynamic days of hands-on training with Senior Guelph Outdoor School instructors. These initial training days are reflected in the event schedule: Wednesday - Friday, July 2-4, 2025 Youth Participants learn the foundations of mentorship, group facilitation, risk awareness, and nature-based leadership. Through games, skill-building, reflection, and team challenges, participants will build confidence, communication skills, and a strong sense of community. Following training, MITs step into mentorship roles during two weeks of Guelph Outdoor School Summer Camp. Under the guidance of experienced staff mentors, they’ll assist in supporting younger campers, practice leadership in action, and deepen their own understanding of nature, self, and community. Program Content & Hightlights include: Leadership & communication training Continued learning in Naturalist Skills Mentorship skills in real camp settings Nature-based games, skills & storytelling Personal growth through reflection & feedback Community-building with peers and staff mentors This is a transformative opportunity for youth looking to stretch their edges, build meaningful connections, and become inspiring leaders in the outdoors.

Notes: The MIT Summer 2025 Program invites returning youth to deepen their connection with Guelph Outdoor School through an exciting new chapter of growth, leadership, and service. This is more than a continuation of summer programming — it’s a launchpad for youth who are ready to lead, to listen, and to give back to their community with confidence and care. Cost & Program Fees include instalment and sliding scale options. The 2 weeks of in-program support are applicable to the volunteer hours required for most high school students. 3 Day Core Training takes place Wednesady - Friday, July 2-4, 2o25. This core training is essential to proceed with the 2 weeks of experiential program support. In-Program Experience These weeks are required as part of the program commitment, but flexible to work around youth and family schedules. Scheduling will take place in June 2025, and participants choose 2 weeks in July and August. Locations & Transportation Participants must have transportation covered to any of our three program locations across the summer, on the weeks they choose support Summer kids’ programs. Gear & Supplies Participants back for a full day in the woods. Food & Water and clothing appropriate for anticipated weather.
