Description:

This class for ages 18+ will focus on crafting and performing short true personal stories, like the Moth or Monti. We will use prompts to generate ideas which will then be refined through feedback and collaboration. Basic principles of storytelling as a craft will be taught, but most of the learning will be through practice as well as listening to the stories of your peers. This class is for anyone who has a story to tell, who wants to be more comfortable speaking in front of an audience, or who wants to dip their toes into the storytelling world. All levels are welcomed, and especially beginners.

This class will end with a final performance on Thursday, August 7 in the ArtsCenter's Theatre where all storytellers are welcome, but not required, to perform in front of a friendly audience.

About the Instructor: Hope Wilder is a storyteller with a background in education who lives in Durham, NC. She practices storytelling through open mics and story jams, is a frequent attendee of the Monti, and has won a Monti story slam. She has taught adults previously through classes, educational workshops and teacher training sessions. Her work is primarily in nonprofits. She is the author of “Let’s Decide Together,” a workbook for shared decision-making with children. Hope enjoys playing the cello and daily hikes on the Eno.
