Celebrate the beauty of the season with Paper, Paint, Play: A Fall Journal— Inspired by the idea of a nature journal, this class invites you to capture the magic of autumn through mixed media. Through a mix of structured exercises and creative play, you’ll learn to:

• Create a handmade journal, choose a personal theme and select a color palette that reflects your fall mood. 
• Document your autumn experience like a nature journal, reimagined in mixed media
• Build dynamic, textured backgrounds using paints and paper
• Add personal touches with quotes, sketches, gelli prints, and found elements
• Explore your surroundings and inner landscape while crafting pages full of texture and meaning.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned creative, this workshop offers a fresh, joyful way to connect with the season—and yourself—through art.

About the Instructor: Theresa P-Tan is an Ecuadorean/Puerto Rican, mixed media artist originally from Brooklyn, NY. She holds a Master of Art in Education from Columbia Teachers College in New York City and she is a former New York City public school teacher. Theresa has been a teaching artist for The Durham Arts Council and The Carrboro ArtsCenter. She has exhibited her work at Golden Belt Art Campus, Durham NC, The Arts Center, Carrboro NC, and at Diamante Arts & Cultural Center, Raleigh NC. Theresa is currently a member of FRANK Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC. You can also find her work at The North Carolina Museum of Art’s Museum Shop.

Notes: Please bring a $5 materials fee payable to the instructor on the first day of class, in addition to the following supplies: Supply List: - 5x7 inch gelli plate - 4 inch brayer - Drawing paper sheets (also comes in pads) - Paint: Acrylic paint various colors of your choice plus bl & white - Ink: Liquitex Basics Acrylic ink (2 colors of your choice) - Brushes: 1” flat brush, small flat brush, 1 round brushes, palette knife - Palette: paper plate (or other of your choice) - Adhesives: matte medium, glue stick - Drawing tools: mechanical pencil, sharpie marker (any other drawing tools you have at hand and would like to try like gel pens, pastels, colored pencils…) - Clean up: apron, baby wipes or old rag, container for water.

Prerequisites: Open to all levels.
