Description:
Learn the ancient art of painting in encaustic! In this beginning encaustic class we will learn the basics of painting in this versatile and expressive medium. Molten beeswax, damar resin and pigments combine to form the paint and your palette will be a hot plate! This is a hands-on studio course where you will learn application, fusing, color mixing, etching, texturing, transfers, collaging, embedding and more through demonstrations and practice. The class will be kept small enough so that each participant will have one on one instruction. Open to artists and those who don’t yet know they are artists.
About the Instructor: Jamie McPhail is a North Carolina based artist currently working in encaustic medium. She has studied and taught the art of encaustic since 2009. She has exhibited her work in numerous group and solo shows throughout the east coast. Drawing on her 40 year career as a bartender, she explores how relationships, connections and environment interplay to form a narrative and inform our perspectives. She believes that in every human there is an artist and she strives to nurture each voice. Jamiemcphail.com.
