Let’s have some fun in our small gardening spaces!  

Join Janis Matson to discuss and understand the design elements and principles, limitations, and potential when designing and gardening in smaller spaces. This session will focus on best practices and creative ideas that make a small space POP—from plants to hard features to garden accents.  

This course will be conducted online and recorded. Registered participants will have access to recordings for a limited time. Pre-registration is required. 

Instructor's Bio

Janis Matson is an enthusiastic, approachable and well-qualified horticulturist with over 30 years of experience who enjoys the challenge of making gardens look and feel good. She is currently based at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo and contributes to their Horticultural Foundations course. Alongside this role, Janis continues her passion for design consulting and garden mentoring through Shoreline, her longstanding company in Parksville. Her experience includes retail nursery, landscape design and installation, and arboriculture. She is a former instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University with the Horticulture Diploma and Apprenticeship programs and at Burnaby Community Education with the Horticultural Hardscape, Plant ID Certificate and Apprenticeship programs. Her credentials include a Landscape Design and Horticulture Diploma, Floral Design Certificate, Arborist Certificate, Arborist Risk Assessor, Red Seal Journeyman Ticket, Level 1 Irrigation Certificate, ICPI - Paver Installation Certificate and a Provincial Instructors Diploma.

Notes: Online course log-in details will be sent 24 hours before the course date. Please note that registrations will close at 5:30 p.m. on February 13. Cancellation policy: No refunds will be given for education courses. A credit will be applied to your account for cancellations with one week's notice. With less than a week's notice, no credit will be given. No new credit will be issued if the cancelled course was purchased using prior credit. Program cancellation by the VBGA due to Public Health Restrictions will result in education program credit equivalent to the value lost. Credits must be used within one year from the date issued. Please notify us of your cancellation in writing to learn@vandusen.org
