Description:
Dig In workshops take place outside in the Learning Garden at VanDusen Botanical Garden; these beginner-friendly, monthly sessions cover a variety of seasonal topics to help build your gardening skills. In this hands‑on June workshop, we’ll explore what to plant and tend as warm weather arrives, with a focus on bush, pole & fava beans and other vertical climbers. Learn how to choose varieties that match your space and cooking preferences, and how to plant these productive crops for steady summer harvests. A walk through VanDusen’s Learning Garden will show how our gardeners support and space their climbers for success. Topics include: soil prep, spacing, crop selection, and trellising to keep beans productive in the summer heat. Led by Sangeeta Thomas, Learning Garden Coordinator, the workshop will include a hands‑on gardening portion, and offer tried & true techniques you can use at home. Participants will take home a small selction of seeds for their own spring plantings. Note: The Learning Garden is accessed via a 15-minute walk along paved and gravel trails. The rasied garden beds are wheelchair accessible. The workshop will take place outside, rain or shine; please dress for the weather! Read our cancellation policy here.
